Sarah Selecky (She/Her)
Sarah Selecky is the author of This Cake Is for the Party, a Giller Prize and Commonwealth Prize finalist, and her novel Radiant Shimmering Light got a rave from Margaret Atwood, who declared it "Social satire + cultural insight whipped into a yummy froth!" In 2020, it was optioned by HBO, with Amy Adams attached to the project. Her latest book, Story Is a State of Mind: The Art of Writing with Creative Curiosity, teaches writers how to write with intuition and create a sustainable and joyful writing life. Sarah holds an MFA from UBC and founded Sarah Selecky Writing School in 2011 as an independent alternative to traditional MFA programs. Her teaching philosophy centres on whole-minded writing, using the body, emotion, and intuition as well as intellect. This integrated approach, rarely taught in academic settings, helps writers connect to their limitless creativity and complete meaningful work.
